What is a Limited Edition Print?
A Limited Edition Print is a where there is only a set number ever printed. We generally print thirty of each size, although each one is printed only when ordered to prevent damage in storage. When printed, each print is numbered and signed by Kerry Edwards (the Artist and founder of Alice Lucy Art) and a numbered certificate of Authenticity is issued.
What is an Open Edition Print?
The opposite of a Limited Edition Print is an Open Edition Print, where there is no limited to the number that can be printed. Each print is printed to order.
What is a Giclee Print?
The work Giclee ("G-clay") is derived from a French verb, and means to squirt or spray. It is a printing process that uses a fine art quality printer, and pigment based inks (not your average deskjet!).
What paper are prints printed onto?
All Limited Edition Prints are printed onto Hahnemuhle William Turner 310gsm matt textured paper. All open edition prints are printed onto Hahnemuhle poster paper, a satin smooth 230gsm paper. Hahnemuhle, a German paper manufacturer can trace its origins back to 1584, and are a passionate producer of the finest quality, archival, museum quality papers. This paper when printed on, gives the best colour saturation and under the right conditions, will last beyond a lifetime.
Do you offer a Framing Service?
Shipping framed/glazed prints is a fine art in itself, and has much potential for smashing. Therefore as a small business we have opted sell all prints unframed, delivered rolled in a tube. Your print is made using the highest quality museum grade paper, with pigment inks that will last a lifetime, however, here are a few pointers about framing your print, to ensure its longevity.
- Use UV and non-reflective glass for best visibility
- Use an Acid free mount
- Once framed Keep out of direct sunlight
I thoroughly recommend using your local framer. A professional will use high grade products to ensure your print has a long life and the best visibility. A quick google search in your area and you're sure to find one.
All our prints come in standard sizes and will fit easily into ready-made frames. Here are a few suppliers that we recommend.
